The Story Behind Victory Fitness
Real results from a real person with real constraints. No shortcuts, just smart training.
The Beginning
I'm a 36-year-old software engineer. I work full-time, run a business, and raise two kids with my wife. Sound familiar?
I've always been active, but I wasn't a serious runner. In high school, I played sports. In college, I worked out occasionally. After graduation, life happened—job, marriage, kids. Running became something I did to stay in shape, not to compete.
Then, at age 35, I decided I wanted to see what I was capable of. Could I run a marathon? Could I run it fast? Could I do it while maintaining everything else in my life?
The answer was yes. But it required a system.
The Challenge
I had real constraints:
- Limited time: 40-50 hours per week in my job, plus business responsibilities
- Family obligations: Two young kids who need their dad present
- No coach: Had to figure this out myself
- First marathon: Zero marathon experience
I couldn't train 80 miles per week like the elites. I couldn't afford a coach or a nutritionist. I had to be efficient.
The System
I spent months researching training methodologies, studying elite programs, and consulting exercise science. Then I adapted everything for someone with constraints—someone like me, and probably like you.
The result was a 21-week training plan that emphasized:
- Quality over quantity: 50-60 miles per week, not 80+
- Structured workouts: Every run had a purpose
- Smart recovery: Rest is training
- Proven principles: No gimmicks, just science
The Result
On race day, I executed the plan perfectly. I ran 2:52:53—17 minutes under the Boston Qualifier for my age group.
It was my first marathon. I was 36 years old. I trained 8-10 hours per week. And it worked.
The Numbers
Background & Experience
Professional
Software engineer with 12+ years of experience. Currently building technology solutions that help people achieve their goals. Previously worked at Code for America, building civic technology that serves millions of Americans.
The same analytical approach I use in software engineering—break down complex problems, test hypotheses, iterate on solutions—I applied to marathon training.
Leadership
F3 Nantan (workout leader) for several years. Led hundreds of men through challenging workouts, building physical and mental resilience. This experience taught me how to motivate, structure programs, and help people push past their limits.
Philosophy
I believe elite performance is possible without sacrificing everything else. You don't need to quit your job, neglect your family, or train 100 miles per week. You need a smart system, consistency, and the right priorities.
The Mission
Victory Fitness exists to help busy professionals achieve elite marathon performance without sacrificing work, family, or life.
I'm proof that it's possible. Now I want to help you do the same.
